Mr John TeyhenJohn V. Teyhen is the acting chief of staff of the Defense Health Agency in Falls Church, Virginia. From April 2019 to December 2022, Teyhen served the DHA as the principal deputy for combat support.

Teyhen retired from the U.S. Army in 2018 after 34 years of service.

During his service, Teyhen served in a variety of important command and staff assignments, including serving as the Deputy Chief of Corps for Preventive Health Sciences in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps and as Advisor to the Surgeon General of the U.S. Army for Environmental Science and Engineering. He traveled extensively around the world as part of his military duties, including Iraq, Haiti, Bosnia, Honduras, Nicaragua, Saudi Arabia, China, Taiwan, and Kenya.

Teyhen holds a bachelor’s degree in health sciences from Austin Peay State University, where he also participated in ROTC and began his service as a U.S. Army officer. He also holds a Master of Public Health in environmental and occupational health and safety from the University of Tennessee. During his studies, he completed an internship with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. In addition, he completed a Training with Industry Fellowship with the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington DC.

Teyhen has received numerous awards and decorations during his military service, is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit, and was awarded the prestigious Surgeon General of the United States Army “A” Service Designation.

Teyhen and his wife are avid marathon runners and were the first military personnel to run marathons in all 50 states.
