New location in Lakeville gives art studio a sense of “permanence”

LAKEVILLE – Lakeville artists of all ages and abilities now have a new space to hone their craft.

The Heart in Art, an art studio whose mission is to provide access to art for people of all mental and physical abilities, opened the doors of its new location at 54 Main St. Lakeville on Friday, August 23rd.

Heart in Art employees said they were especially excited about the new location because they would now be able to work in one place.

The studio previously operated at several locations in Middleboro, including the 60 Union St. location at the Church of Our Savior.

The new studio “gives us an element of permanence that we didn’t have in multiple shared spaces,” said Jennifer Paulin, director of operations at Heart in Art.

Melissa Oddi-Morrison, founder of Heart in Art, said the larger new space allowed us to “do more than one thing at a time” and have “more room for our supplies”.

This will allow the studio to offer more classes during the day, Paulin said.

The new location will feature an art room, a larger space for yoga, sports and music classes, and private rooms for students who need one-on-one instruction, Oddi-Morrison said.

Although Oddi-Morrison noted that she was “just happy” to finally be in the new space, she admitted that getting to this point had been “a labor of love.”

New offerings in Lakeville include yoga classes, crochet and knitting lessons and a pound fitness class that has participants pounding drumsticks in a full-body cardio and strength session, staff said.

Marie Dicroce hopes that attending art classes at the new studio will serve as a social opportunity for her 34-year-old son, Nicholas Mariani. He is also looking forward to taking cooking classes – which the studio also offers – and learning to play the drums.

“Nick is a social person and doesn’t get enough opportunities to be with people his own age,” she noted.
