Impressive Michigan mansion features 23 rooms on 40 acres with an underground tunnel

COOPERSVILLE, MI – Have you always wanted to live out your Bruce Wayne dreams?

Because a nearly 100-foot-long underground tunnel from your house to the garage can make you feel like Batman entering the Batcave.

Located at 11058 Garfield Street in Crockery Township near Coopersville, this gem is offered for $2,999,900 through Vis Realty Group with Home Realty and associate brokers Ken and Gina Vis.

This unique property is MLive’s Home of the Week. Every Wednesday we feature homes from across the state in a variety of architectural styles and price ranges.

This extravagant, upscale mansion in rural Coopersville is, according to the listing description, likely one of the largest homes in all of West Michigan.

The Alt Mansion property includes over 40 acres of secluded, private waterfront land with access to Judd Bayou and the Grand River, making it perfect for your own home, equestrian facility, bed and breakfast or wedding venue and event center, Gina Vis said.

Upon entering, you drive through a private gate and park in a 12-space garage. Behind the garage is a barn for storage or livestock.

This luxurious mansion was built in 1988 and is in very good condition. It even has 110 square meters of living space right on the river.

“When you come out there, it’s so peaceful,” said Ken Vis. “You can’t see anything around you at all.”

This magnificent behemoth has a total of 23 rooms, including seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms and several hidden rooms.

The master bedroom wing on the east side is a new addition to this house and has a gross living area of 16,844 square feet (approximately 1,594 m²) above ground.

Each room is lavishly designed, with a beautifully painted ceiling in the ballroom. Explore the interior and you’ll find a billiards room, art gallery, massage area, sauna and theater.

The cinema is equipped with 15 comfortable, luxurious seats to provide you and your guests with a first-class cinema experience.

There are three fireplaces, beautiful chandeliers and high ceilings throughout the home. This home has a full basement, with half unfinished and the other half ideal for guest quarters.

“The attention to detail is just spectacular,” said Ken Vis. “The woodwork is really special. The moldings, the furniture, the huge property and the riverfront – to recreate all of that would cost at least $10 million. … You can’t recreate something like that for anywhere near that much, and you can’t find it anywhere else today. It would cost four times as much.”

The location near Leonard Road and I-96 provides easy access to Grand Rapids, Grand Haven and Muskegon.

This is a stately home that is incredibly unique, said Gina Vis.

“It’s timeless. You almost have to go inside to see it and believe it,” said Gina Vis. “It’s a newer building, but it looks like something that feels like ‘Downton Abbey.’ It’s like going back in time.”
