“Lando’s Luck” by Justina Ireland was a perfect story for my daughter

As a father and father of a daughter, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find new and exciting things to introduce to my young daughter. It is also difficult to find things we can watch or listen to that she will enjoy without making me want to tear my eyes out and plug my ears with cotton wool. As I began to introduce her to a galaxy far, far away, we both loved Justina Ireland’s novel ” Lando’s Luck.

The novel for middle school students, set before Solo: A Star Wars Story, tells one of the many adventures that Lando Calrissian and his droid L3-37 experience. I decided to listen to the audiobook with my daughter, which is read by the voice actress Soneela Nankani.

The story takes place one year before the events of Solo. It follows Lando and L3 as they try to survive their arrest and difficulties in a smuggling operation involving a young princess. The story is told from the perspective of the young princess Rinetta Gan, who tries to betray Lando and L3 and then works with them.

The entire story and audiobook convey a sense of adventure, but also humor. Throughout his character development in the franchise, Lando always has a sense of doing the right thing despite his villainous tendencies. His decisions to help the young princess and the people evoke a sense of nostalgia for adults and fans of the original trilogy.

The story also expands on L3 and where the character comes from. After her role in Solomany fans wanted more, and this book delves even further into her character and her witty attacks on Lando. Rinetta Gan is also a character that will appeal to younger viewers. She has a feisty attitude, and the way the narrator gives her character a voice makes her an inspiring young leader for little girls.

The audiobook is also pleasant to listen to and not too complicated to follow. The franchise’s sound effects and music drive the story forward. Nankani’s narration and the characters’ voices have depth and are well done. Her impersonation of Lando is spot on and avoids sounding like a caricature.

My daughter and I enjoyed the audiobook during our car trips over several weeks. She didn’t want to listen to anything else and was keen to know how it ended. It’s hard to find entertaining entertainment that also contains a good lesson for younger viewers. “Lando’s Luck” is one of those stories.
