The reason why WWE star John Cena always carries a broken watch

John Cena always carries a broken pocket watch with him.

Ironically for a wrestler whose theme song is called The time is now, Cena’s accessory can’t tell him that his time is now, or ever, but when he was asked about the watch in a recent interview, it turned out that the item has a deeper meaning.

Appears on Jimmy Kimmel LiveIn the show, which was hosted by Jeff Goldblum as a guest host, Cena explained that although he has a wristwatch that tells him the time, his pocket watch gives him perspective:

“I used to think I wasn’t good enough. I didn’t value myself. On the back of this watch it says ‘Comparison is the thief of joy.’ So I take it and every time I feel uncomfortable or have low self-esteem, I give it a little reminder that I am good enough and I deserve love.”

The WWE star further explained that the watch is engraved on both sides and that the front of the watch also serves as a reminder to him in case he gets too conceited:

“It says ‘Memento mori’ because when my head gets too big, I have to remind myself that I’m human and I’m not above anyone. And I always have to remember where I came from and those who support me. That I’m not doing it alone. So I have a side for when I think my ego isn’t too big and a side for when I don’t feel good enough. It’s a nice little keeper of perspective, not time, and that’s why I have it.”

Top WWE star demands match against John Cena

Following his surprise appearance at Money in the Bank earlier this year, John Cena announced that WrestleMania 41 would be his last as an active competitor and that he would have his final match in December 2025. While pretty much every star on the roster is hoping for a match against the Hollywood star, one of the company’s biggest stars recently said that she would be honored to fight John Cena as part of the farewell tour.

H/t to SEScoops.
