Princess Beatrice’s auburn hair transformation – before and after photos

We love Princess Beatrice’s hair. The redheaded royal has always had such a vibrant mane and we love the rich red color. Many women pay thousands for such a blush shade. Indeed. It’s fair to say that Prince Andrew’s eldest daughter and Prince Harry are the most famous redheads in the royal family.

We must say, though, that we’ve noticed how much darker the mother-of-one’s hair has become recently. Of course, it’s pretty normal for red hair to fade as we get older. There’s a science to it.

We spoke to Michael Gray, John Freida’s creative hairdresser who styles A-list tresses, and he explains: “Princess Beatrice has worn some iconic hairstyles over the years, she was known for her bouncy blow-dry and glamorous ponytail.

“We always knew she had beautiful, bright red hair, which she inherited from her mother Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.

Beatrice’s hair always looks great

“Like most people, our hair gets darker or greyer/whiter as we age. Sometimes we lose our rich vibrancy. The same is true for redheads. The body produces more eumelanin, which can darken hair. The red hair follicles stop producing their red pigment and fade through a range of colors, including copper, rose blonde, and even darker. This process is called achromotrichia. It is when the hair follicles stop producing the pigment that gives red hair its color. Production of the pigment slows down and eventually stops.

“I look forward to seeing where Princess Beatrice goes with her color journey.”

In 2008, the Queen was photographed wearing a pretty boho dress as she arrived on her first day at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she was studying history. You can see the impressive length of her hair and its rich red tone.

A year later, Princess Beatrice attended the premiere of Young Victoria at the Pacific Theater in Los Angeles, California, and her mane looks a few shades darker, don’t you think? We love the curls though; we wish we knew what tool she used!

At the 2011 Chelsea Flower Show, Beatrice sported a fabulous half-up, half-down hairstyle, and the natural colour of her hair had changed again and no longer looked quite so coppery.

Edoardo Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi’s wife looked incredible at the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Fashion Gala at the V&A, with her hair looking noticeably darker and more intensely colored, and the red lipstick really made it pop.

At the 2020 Chelsea Flower Show, the Queen’s hair looks even darker but lighter at the ends, perhaps suggesting a summer holiday where the sun naturally brightened her hair. Her mane was tied back with a pretty black bow.

In July, Beatrice, who has a young daughter called Sienna, was photographed at the unveiling of street artist Mr Brainwash’s work at Jack Barclay Bentley in central London. She wore a sleek and straight style and her hair is several shades darker. You can still see that she is a gorgeous, born redhead, but the tone has definitely changed over the years.
