EDMONTON – Built Green Canada is offering support to builders and communities affected by natural disasters and looking to rebuild their homes better.
Built Green’s programs provide a path to healthier, longer-lasting and sustainably built homes, a press release said. Built Green Canada was founded in 2003 and since then, builders have worked with them to complete 51,670 Built Green certified single-family, multi-family and high-density projects, as well as two Phase 1 community certifications in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
The organization’s programs take a holistic approach to ensure that a tight building envelope is balanced with good ventilation and healthier products that contribute to improved indoor air quality. The program covers energy and envelope, materials and methods, indoor air quality, ventilation, waste management, water conservation, occupant well-being and business practices.
Whether it is building new buildings, renovating or restoring buildings damaged by natural or mechanical disasters, Built Green offers financial assistance to anyone who wants to have their buildings certified under its programs, the press release said.
All housing developers required to build a new home in their community will receive a full waiver of their membership fees, an induction course and certification fees for their first three construction projects when they complete the BUILT GREEN single-family, renovation or restoration programs through 2025. For multifamily and high-density projects, membership fees are waived while certification fees are reduced by 30 percent.
The BUILT GREEN restoration program was developed through a partnership with Hudson Restoration, a Southern Ontario-based green disaster recovery company that provides property owners and their insurers with remediation, restoration and reconstruction services for high-value residential, historic and commercial properties.
