During the Korean War he served in Germany for two years.

On December 10, 1954, he married his childhood sweetheart, Lorraine Sloss, who is still alive, in the old church in Galloway.

Last December they celebrated 69 wonderful years together.

He took part in a mission trip to Cuba.

He also rode his bike with the ROMEO group.

John could most often be found in his garage, working on something.

John was the type of man who never turned away anyone who needed help or a repair.

He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

John valued his family and enjoyed participating in activities involving his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved wife Lorraine, he leaves behind his children, Steve (Carrie) Slocum of Cooperstown, and Debra (Jeffery) Mihleder and Ronald (Martha) Slocum, both of Franklin.
