Disney unveils first concept drawings for “Frozen 3” at D23

It feels like Disney is pulling all the strings to break all kinds of records for the first time in ages. Equipped with many exciting updates for its upcoming projects, Frozen III was also able to take a first look at the concept drawings.




Frozen is one of Disney’s most popular animated franchises. It is also incredibly profitable, having grossed $2.76 billion at the worldwide box office and won two Oscars. The first film premiered in 2013, the sequel followed six years later in 2019, and became the highest-grossing animated film of all time with $1.45 billion. That record was broken this year with Inside Out 2but luckily Disney confirmed Frozen III happening, giving him a chance to reclaim his title. In addition, it is keeping fans engaged as it revealed concept art for the upcoming third chapter at D23.

Moana 2 offers a slightly different look at the main character and her friends, while the animated sequel is nearing its expected release.


The concept art looks like a Sleeping Beauty-inspired mood showing Elsa on the river on the ice horse Frozen 2with Anna and Olaf riding on land beside her on a real horse. Another castle appears ahead of them on the horizon, behind them a mysterious horned shadow holding a spear, possibly the film’s upcoming villain.”It captures the scene of Anna and Elsa… “Everyone at Disney Animation is excited to be back in this world,” said filmmaker Jennifer Lee.


FrozenThe future is also very exciting, as there may be more to come than just the upcoming Frozen IIIwhich indicates Frozen IV. Lee teased: “There were many questions from Frozen 2…to answer it, two films will be needed.She also confirmed the release date for Frozen III in 2027, one year delayed from its original premiere in 2026. Disney has put November 24, 2027 on hold, most likely for Frozenduring Thanksgiving weekend. In November, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that there would be a Frozen IV.


The Frozen musical is coming to Disney

Frozen – The Musicalinspired by the 2013 film, also received an exciting update. The franchise will follow in the footsteps of the successful musical Hamiltonand will release it on Disney+, its streaming service. The announcement was made at D23 and will hit the streaming platform sometime in 2025.


The musical premiered in 2017 and has had a guest appearance on Broadway and a North American tour, as well as West End performances. The upcoming streaming version was recorded at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane earlier this year and the final performance is scheduled for September 8, 2024. The music and lyrics are by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, based on the book by Jennifer Lee, and it is directed by Michael Grandage.
