Kitchen pantries are one of the most sought-after elements in a kitchenette because they provide a dedicated place to store ingredients, extra household items, and small appliances. No matter how big or small your pantry is, it can be a challenge to find kitchen storage ideas that not only look pretty but also make everyday life easier. One that Angela Scanlon has mastered.
The Your Home Made Perfect presenter and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant took her fans on a tour of her pantry on Instagram. Angela Scanlon’s Instagram post shows her walking around her large but lived-in pantry, which has an American fridge at one end, a sink and rows of shelves along the walls. While there are a row of jars on the top shelf, it was the wooden storage containers that caught our eye.
Although kitchen pantries offer ample space for storing grains, pasta, and even cleaning supplies, sometimes this can just add too much time to your weekly household routine, leaving you struggling to keep up. An aesthetically pleasing storage system is of no use if it isn’t practical for your everyday life. So if you’re short on time and need an easily accessible yet attractive storage option in your pantry, take inspiration from Angela Scanlon’s clever container method.
Angela Scanlon’s pantry organization
Packing groceries straight from the supermarket into large storage containers designed for them is a trick that professional organizers often use in busy households like Angela Scanlon’s. The containers are great for storing extra linens and tea towels, as well as multipacks of chips and breakfast bars that don’t need extra organizing, and save you from unsightly clutter on your pantry shelves.
“The idea of a walk-in pantry is a dream for many people. Whether you have a proper room or a large closet that you can turn into a pantry, it’s important to make sure everything is well organized,” explains Siân Pelleschi, President of APDO and Founder of Sorted!
“Angela’s pantry is an example of a mix of options – some on display, some simply housed in a wooden box. To be completely honest, once you put something in there, even if it’s a little messy in the container, it automatically creates order. This is even more true when it’s a box that you can’t see through but can see into, like Angela’s pantry with the wooden boxes.”
If you lead a hectic lifestyle, are constantly rushing to work, or have a family with a hectic schedule, finding kitchen storage solutions that are easy to manage will make your life a little easier.
“The key is to create processes that are easy to manage,” adds Siân. “Boxes or containers for similar items can be a really quick and easy solution to keep things looking somewhat tidy, but still knowing where something is when you need it.”
Although Angela’s large wooden storage boxes caught our eye, she also opted for some chic glass containers to hold dried ingredients. This is a huge trend in kitchen organization that never seems to go out of style – it makes your home look super stylish and also reduces visual clutter for a more relaxed cooking environment.
“Transferring into jars and containers can be very nice to create a uniform visual effect, but you have to remember that not only does refilling take time, but you’re also likely to have too much left over and then need to store it somewhere. If you like the uniform look of jars and containers, consider going to a refill shop where you can take the jar and refill it directly without having anything left over that you need to store,” recommends Siân.
If you’re lucky enough to have a pantry, or are thinking about incorporating one into your next kitchen renovation, consider this your personal checklist of the purchases you need to make sure your kitchen is as neat and tidy as possible.
