Vietnam Airlines prepares for National Day with half a million additional seats

To meet the increased travel demand during the peak travel season for the National Day from August 30 to September 4, Vietnam Airlines is offering additional flights.

According to local media, the total number of seats available on domestic and international routes during the holidays is about 500,000, equivalent to nearly 2,500 flights.

The airline will focus on domestic routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and popular destinations such as Danang, Dalat, Cam Ranh, Hue and Phu Quoc. The total number of domestic seats will reach 330,000, corresponding to over 1,700 flights, an increase of more than 19 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

International routes covered by the additional flights include India, China, Thailand and Australia. The total number of international seats will exceed 150,000, representing over 650 flights, a slight increase from last year.

Vietnam Airlines reported that its main domestic routes are already at almost 50 percent capacity and expects bookings to continue to rise sharply in the coming days. The international routes mentioned above are also performing well, with load factors between 50 and 70 percent.

A Vietnam Airlines representative explained that ensuring capacity during the National Day peak period would be a significant burden for the airline given the aircraft shortage in the aviation industry due to global engine recalls for inspection by manufacturers.

Recently, Vietnam Airlines received an additional Airbus A320neo and a Boeing 787-10 to increase its capacity for peak travel times.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has issued a document to Vietnamese airlines with operating plans for the National Day holiday.

The CAAV instructed Vietnamese airlines to coordinate with travel agents to develop plans for key domestic and international destinations, with the aim of supporting, promoting and enhancing both domestic and international tourism.

Airlines must coordinate with ground service providers, especially for night flights, while maintaining and maximising their operational capacity while ensuring safety.
