Heading towards another sultry summer weekend

Heading towards another sultry summer weekend

It’s going to be a very pleasant day ahead, especially when we expect temperatures to drop below 15 degrees in the early hours. Today we’ll see more filtered sunshine again through the moving high clouds, with a cluster of showers and thunderstorms trying to hold together.

Most of this activity is expected to weaken as it spreads further east, but extreme southeastern Nebraska may see some light showers during the morning.

The forecast is a bit of a rinse and repeat, as severe weather remains possible in the West for another evening. A slight (level 1 of 5) risk of damaging winds and some hail is forecast for southwest Nebraska Thursday evening.

One of the latest Stormcast versions this morning keeps most of these stronger thunderstorms in the southwest corner tonight, closer to Imperial and McCook.

But this weekend we’re in for a quick summer setback. A ridge will form and strengthen, bringing hotter days on Saturday and Sunday.

4-day temperatures

Heck, with the heat this weekend, the humidity will also rise. We’ll quickly drop from heat index readings in the 80s to the low 100s. Don’t let this change surprise you, as there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities this time of year!

One of these opportunities is the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island. It will also be hot in Grand Island on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees.
