The actress unveiled her living room idea in a recent Instagram post, showing off her white walls, brown and cream rugs, and white and green furniture. In the background, a small corner of the room is wrapped in gold. Warm gold walls complement the cream sofa and vintage mirror. Metallic accents from a gold cigar table and gold and pink chandelier bring out the brightness of the color.
Experts love J.Lo’s choice of accent color. “Gold will always be a popular accent color for a variety of interior styles, and the current trend for ’70s-style gold decor proves how versatile this metal is,” says Kathy Kuo, a renowned New York-based interior designer. She continues, “When I think of ’70s-style gold, I think of really relaxed luxury – it’s soft and whimsical, but also very chic and classy.”
Choosing an accent color like gold for your home is a wonderful way to highlight a specific part of your space and add a touch of contrast. Jennifer Ebert, color expert and digital editor at Homes & Gardens, explains, “An accent color in a small space like a living room corner brings fun and whimsy to your home without you having to do much. It draws the eye back and instantly makes the room feel larger.”
Although decorating with gold in small doses is beautiful, it is not recommended as the entire living room color. Kuo says H&G: “My advice for bringing this trend into your home would be to use ’70s gold as a tongue-in-cheek contrast or accent, rather than using it as a dominant decor element. Too much of it can make your home look like a set piece, but the right amount is fun and eye-catching.”
