John Cena, arguably one of the greatest of all time, recently commented on why Roman Reigns deserves this title.
Since his debut on the main roster in 2012, Reigns has been considered one of the top players. With multiple world title runs and other championship victories, Reigns has established himself as a leader in the league.
While speaking to Shannon Sharpe at Club Shay Shay recently, John Cena revealed why he believes Roman Reigns is the “GOAT” of the pro wrestling industry. The head of Cenation believes Reigns played a crucial role in increasing WWE/TKO’s stock price and successfully overcame his critics on his way to the top.
It’s unbelievable that I’m saying that a talent who is still active and has years left is the greatest of all time. But he’s been around since 2012, I had to work my way up. I started on the bench, then got on the Saturday program and then just lost every match. He came in with The Shield at a really high level and never wavered. Even when the fans didn’t like him, he was still in the main event.
He’s been a main event focus for over a decade now. And he’s done his time, and you could say whatever forces helped him, but in 2012 the stock was $11, WWE or TKO stock is now $117, that’s on him.”
The former world champion also showered the tribal chief with compliments and explained:
There’s no better proof of that, and I know it’s a team effort and nobody does it alone, but to me, this is serious business. And to me, I have to show respect where respect is due. And Joe is smart, passionate about what he does, a generational athlete, respects his family, respects the locker room, respects the business. He’s just a very, very smart performer and someone I respect. He would be my greatest of all time.”
Despite his debut as a top star, Reigns’ path to the top was not easy. The Big Dog was often criticized at the beginning of his career, but he handled it with dignity and reached where he is today.
Latest update on John Cena’s WWE contract
In the same interview with Shannon Sharpe, John Cena updated his fans on the current status of his WWE contract. Cena is set to retire next year, but fans can still breathe a sigh of relief.
I have such a trusting relationship with them. Over two decades. I am an advocate for the brand. I love the company. It is my home. They are my family. Even after 2025, I have already signed an extension to remain a member of the WWE family in the near, medium and long term future.”
The 16-time world champion may be entering his final year in the industry and fans are wondering whether or not he can win a 17th world title.
