No one was injured when an empty guest room caught fire at a hotel where the Cowboys train in California – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A fire was reported Tuesday in an empty guest room at the California hotel where the Dallas Cowboys are holding their training camp, but no injuries were reported, according to the team.

According to the team, the fire was contained to one room and practice activities were not disrupted. The Cowboys have two more practices before they break camp on Thursday.

“First and foremost, I want to thank Oxnard Public Safety,” coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday. “I thought they did an excellent job. … And yes, it was a very unfortunate situation. I know no one was hurt, but it’s definitely something we can learn from.”

Dallas has held its training camp at the hotel complex next to two practice fields in Oxnard every year since 2012. The Cowboys had previously been in Oxnard for a time while also training in San Antonio.

The Oxnard facility was the Raiders’ training center when the franchise was in Los Angeles in the 1980s and 1990s. The Cowboys first trained in Oxnard in 2004.

McCarthy could not recall a situation like a fire occurring at any training camp he had been involved in before.

“That’s the beauty of the National Football League,” said McCarthy, who is entering his 18th season as head coach and has been in the league since 1993. “Sometimes things like this happen when you think you’ve seen it all.”
