Proud homeowner shares before and after photos after ripping out his traditional lawn: ‘No regrets’

While many homeowners take pride in having a pristine, well-kept green lawn, some environmentally conscious property owners are allowing their gardens to re-wild to support local ecosystems. One of the latest examples of this phenomenon on Reddit is a beautiful lawn in the UK filled with bright poppies, flowering plants, and happy pollinators.

A proud British homeowner recently posted a “lawn removal update” on an anti-lawn subreddit, showing photos of his blooming backyard. The colorful wildflower lawn includes bold red poppies, a common flower in the region and a favorite of local bees, according to the homeowner.

Impressively, the Redditor wrote that this is the first year they’ve transformed their lawn into a lush pollinator paradise, and the transformation has certainly paid off.

“No regrets! Before photo included,” wrote the poster. “Apart from the English weather doing its best to blow them away, it was all a success.”

Around the world, meadows have long disappeared due to agriculture, urban development, climate change and human intervention. To revitalize their areas, homeowners are replacing manicured lawns with grassy meadows filled with native plant life—and the benefits are remarkable.

Switching to a natural lawn is a great way to save money and time on lawn maintenance. It can also help you reduce your water bill because, unlike regular lawn grass, native plants are used to thriving in local weather conditions. Native lawns can also create a healthier ecosystem for local pollinators and help reduce air pollution, enrich your yard’s soil, and support biodiversity in your neighborhood.

Even if you’re not ready to re-green your entire yard, a partial lawn resurfacing can allow you to reap the benefits of native plant life – while helping local wildlife thrive.

“So much nicer and more nourishing for the ecosystem – and uses far fewer resources,” one Redditor commented on the post.

“Simply AWESOME,” added another commenter. “I’m so happy for you and the pollinators!”
