Tim Walz has managed to wow the masses as he takes on the role of vice presidential candidate in Kamala Harris’s fight for the White House. From his love of camouflage hats to his taste in music—he’s a confirmed Swiftie and member of the Beyhive, it seems—the Minnesota governor has captured the hearts and minds of many Americans.
While he’s a former teacher and football coach, Tim is also the unofficial campaign photographer, as he shared a behind-the-scenes snapshot of himself and Kamala Harris in the midst of their campaign planning.
One photo captures the moment when Tim appears engrossed in taking a photo with his cell phone of his running mate, who is no doubt giving an impassioned speech, surrounded by fellow Democrats, all listening intently.
The second photo shows the shot he took of Kamala giving a serious speech in a dark suit while other people in suits stood behind her having their own conversations. In the corner, the photographer from the first image could be seen taking the snap – a cheeky moment of candor in the midst of the election that showed what really goes on behind the scenes.
He captioned the photo: “Proud to be @kamalaharris’ running mate – and unofficial campaign photographer.”
Tim and Kamala are in high spirits after attending a rally at an arena near Phoenix, Arizona, on August 9 – reportedly drawing one of the largest Democratic crowds of the campaign so far.
The 60-year-old has attracted a lot of attention since being announced as the vice presidential candidate, particularly as the public looks at his family life, from the loss of his brother Craig to the recent news of his son Gus’s neurodivergence.
In a new interview, Tim and his wife Gwen spoke openly about their son’s diagnosis: he suffered from nonverbal learning disorder, ADHD and an anxiety disorder – they discovered his illnesses when he was a teenager.
“As our youngest, Gus, grew up, it became increasingly apparent that he was different from his classmates,” they told People. “Gus preferred playing video games and spending more time alone.”
“Like so many American families, it took us a while to figure out how we could do everything we could to give Gus a successful childhood,” they continued, explaining that they viewed his illness not so much as a “setback” but rather a “secret force.”
Tim’s honesty about his family life is just another reason for his popularity, after he recently came into the spotlight for calling Republicans – and their vice presidential candidate JD Vance – “weird.”
