Jefferson City man charged with assault after brawl at Chick’s Tap Room

The Cole County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against a man accused of starting a fight while drunk at a bar in Jefferson City.

They charged Nicolas Neal Montgomery of Jefferson City with second-degree assault, resisting government authority and fourth-degree assault on a special victim.

According to court documents, Jefferson City police were called to Chick’s Taproom on Industrial Drive late Monday night for a report of a robbery.

Officers said the man was very drunk and refused to leave the bar despite repeated requests.

When officers tried to arrest Montgomery, he grabbed, pulled and twisted a sergeant’s finger, they report.

Finally they managed to arrest him.

Then a witness arrived at the bar.

She told police that she had just taken a male victim to Capital Region Medical Center for treatment.

When the officer spoke to the victim at the hospital, he said he did not know Montgomery.

He also said Montgomery punched him for no reason.

Montgomery was held without bail in the Cole County Jail.

This fight was the second in three days at the Jefferson City bar.

According to a press release, Jefferson City police were called at 1:45 a.m. Saturday for a reported assault.

The press release states that when officers arrived, the victim was unconscious.

Emergency services took the victim to the University of Missouri Hospital.

Cole County officials found Calen Mummert a few blocks away and took him into custody for first-degree assault.

A review of online records as of Tuesday, August 20, showed that no charges had been filed against Mummert.

Even after a search of online inmate records, he did not appear to be in the Cole County Jail.

According to the bar’s Facebook page, a “no bag policy” has been implemented, meaning only clear bags or purses are allowed.
