Gillie Da Kid took home the MVP award for the third year in a row at the 2024 Monster Energy BIG3 Celebrity Game last Sunday (August 18).

While he was enjoying his great performance as part of Ice Cube’s Team Webull, Game worth millions of dollars The co-host spoke to VIBE and named his personal “Big 3” podcasts, experienced rappers and newcomers.

Without naming his own award-nominated media company, he said, “I would say Joe Rogan because he set the bar for how much money we could actually make from podcasts. And that changed my life. I would say NORE, I would say Joe Budden – because they did it before us and I didn’t even know what podcasting was – and that they introduced it to an urban space, those would be the big three in my opinion.”

Speaking about the hip-hop space, the rapper, who once moved into the media world, named three veteran rappers who have made their mark in the rap world.

“When I look at old school rappers, I look at what they did back then and what they’re doing now. So if you look at what Ice Cube did back then and what he’s doing now, he never dropped off,” he began. “He just shot up a level. So if people don’t put Ice Cube in the top five greatest rappers of all time, it’s like a slap in the face. He was here. Your mother listened to Ice Cube and now your mother’s kids are watching his movies. Do you see the transition?”

He continued, “Okay. Jay-Z; he went from (rapping) to owning Roc Nation. Then probably 50 Cent. 50 Cent is a guy who got shot a lot. He came from the gutter. He sold 10 million records. He sold more records than all these guys and now he’s running TV. Think about it. Did you ever think a guy from the ghetto who got shot so many times would run TV?”

Finally, the Philly native talked about his favorites among the “New School” and “Newer Age” rappers and named Drizzy, K. Dot and Durkio from Chicago.

“I mean, he does shows in a city four days in a row,” he said of Drake, before adding, “Then probably Kendrick and my third would probably be Lil Durk.”
