American Airlines flight attendant reveals the secret to perfect luggage storage – Why don’t more passengers do it?

There’s a TikTok trend called “very low key, very humble” that describes doing things in an unobtrusive, proper way.

Last week, the White House was all about doing away with student desks and the Education Department asked to reconsider its decision that legislation was needed to give the administration the authority to move forward with student debt cancellation. It started earlier this month with a TikTok video of a clown doing his job “very low-key, very mindfully” that has been viewed tens of millions of times.

I didn’t understand the hint until an American Airlines flight attendant used it to explain how to board a plane in a video that has been viewed 2.4 million times. Caption: “How to board a plane in a respectful manner.”

  • Roll your hand luggage into the aisle.
  • Step out of the aisle
  • Place the bag in the luggage compartment above you
  • Turn it on its side, as oversized storage compartments allow this and maximize the available space for other passengers

Oversized overhead bins have enough space for one piece of luggage per passenger, but customers often have to check their luggage at the gate. There are three main reasons for this:

  1. Customers can place their personal items (or coats) in the rack in addition to their hand luggage. They are not limited to one item per passenger.
  2. Gate agents require gate checks too early, when there are still plenty of seats available. They fear that waiting too long will cause passengers to spend time looking for a seat when the overhead bins are full – and there will be a brief delay in the last few minutes before the scheduled departure.
  3. Passengers forget to put their luggage on its side. It takes up twice as much space in the storage compartments as necessary. Most passengers do not know how to use these containers properly because bags didn’t fit so well in the past.

Maybe airlines should convey trendy messages to their customers by using TikTok instead of creative safety videos. Airlines also need to explain how they Close these containerstoo – because when you turn them right sideways and have all those bags in them, the containers get pretty heavy! If you pull the container down, you get a little help closing it. They are designed to close easily, but nobody knows it!
