There is no talk about Otis Shanty’s new single “Nobody’s Party”

In a world where you can be “outdone” by loudmouths at every party, Otis Shanty speak out on their own creative terrain. The Somerville band elegantly tramples over outdated rules of social etiquette on their new song “Nobody’s Party,” proving that you can make a poignant statement without causing a damn ruckus.

Otis Shanty weave their understated alt-rock with a commentary on “the illusions of social acceptance” for the new song, which was released today (August 20) and serves as the second single from their upcoming LP On top of the hill.

“Nobody’s Party” plunges listeners into the stuffy discomfort of a gathering, using blunt lyricism to help them find an escape – or at least a way to cope with their surroundings. “In a second I’ll lose my tongue on the floor / In a second I’ll lose my mind,” singer Sadye Bobbette agonizes in the pre-chorus.

“In larger groups, speaking loudly, confidently and with humor is often more rewarded than listening, observing or being serious,” reflects the band. “The expectations leave a very small sweet spot that only a few personalities really hit exactly: entertaining without taking up too much space, stylish without trying hard, passionate without being pompous, clever without being presumptuous, flirtatious without being too pushy.”

It’s an impossible web of fine lines to navigate – so Otis Shanty blurs them all, leaving nothing but the desire for rule-free human connection. Join “Nobody’s Party” below.
