Drew McIntyre argues to face John Cena on his upcoming WWE retirement tour in 2025

Drew McIntyre has established himself as one of WWE’s top heels and is currently in the middle of a feud with CM Punk. Next up for the Scottish psychopath is a strap match with the Second City Saint. Party in Berlinbut he already has his eye on 2025.

Speaking to the Ringer Wrestling Show, McIntyre explained why he should take part in John Cena’s planned farewell tour next year.

“Cena is coming back for his one-year comeback, it’s going to be great,” he started. “I don’t know if I’m included in the plans, but I guarantee I’ll put pressure on them and push them in every direction to make it happen, because I know ten times more about punk and the things that happened when I was younger.”

“There’s never been a one-on-one game. If I have to drive management crazy, I’ll drive them crazy, drive John crazy.” McIntyre continued. “I’m going to take that fight and tear them apart on the mic, which not many people can do in the ring, and send him into a happy retirement and hopefully Punk with him.”

Cena is expected to work between 30 and 40 dates in 2025, meaning the 16-time world champion will only have time for a limited number of rivalries and matches. It would be great to have McIntyre in there somewhere, though, so we’ll see what happens.

Elsewhere in the interview, the former heavyweight champion again took aim at Punk, dismissing him as an “attraction” rather than a professional wrestler.

“I got fired. I was told, ‘Hey, you’re not good enough right now. Fuck off.’ My response was not to sit on my couch.” he remembered. “I’m going to keep wrestling and work harder than anyone in the world and reinvent myself and come back and get to the top of the WWE mountain and prove that I’m the best in the world. That’s what I’ve done. I’m a professional wrestler day in and day out.”

“He’s gone. He lived off the pipe bomb, he lived off the feud with Cena, he’s smart and he did his best and he became a big star. Nostalgia is a damn good thing. He was gone all this time. This legend was created. He’s no longer a professional wrestler. He’s an attraction.”

McIntyre added: “There’s nothing wrong with being an attraction, we need attractions, but don’t you fucking say you’re a professional wrestler if you’re not a professional wrestler. I’m a professional wrestler.”

We can imagine that Punk and McIntyre will have at least one more match after Party in Berlinwith the climax of their rivalry giving both men the opportunity to feud with other Superstars. The Best in the World has also expressed interest in teaming with Cena, so he will likely be in high demand next year.
