We have enjoyed Nachos Cheese Doritos with abandon on Earth. But have you ever thought about eating Doritos in space? Doritos are not allowed to be taken into space because Doritos dust and crumbs pose a threat to spacecraft systems. But now, food scientists at FritoLay (PepsiCo) have figured out how to make Doritos safe for microgravity and launched their Cool Ranch Zero Gravity chips. They have made them space-worthy by replacing the chips’ classic powder topping with an oil-based coating that prevents the flavor from escaping. Also Doritos has taken such a step and partnered with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Polaris to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.
