Silent Hill 2 Remake releases a new story trailer and yes, we can finally see Eddie

Konami has released a brand new story trailer for its highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake.

The teaser is essentially the same as the original’s acclaimed E3 trailer from 2001, and the script is almost identical, all set to a fabulous reinterpretation of (one of) Silent Hill 2’s ending themes, “Promise.”

You can see the remake trailer below. For comparison, here is the 2001 E3 trailer for Silent Hill 2:

Perhaps the most exciting thing is that we Finally Get a first look at the remake’s interpretation of Eddie and Mary, two important NPCs who have never been seen in any cinematics (or, in Eddie’s case, at all).

The last character reveal generated, uh, interesting Reactions from some corners of the internet, but Eddie’s face – which strongly resembles Tweedle Dee/Tweedle Dum – is much closer to the original, including his backwards baseball cap. He’s noticeably weird in all the right ways.

Mary also closely resembles the original character, including her outfit and hairstyle.

We also get to see a bit more combat and a longer look at Silent Hill 2’s dingy environments thanks to the brand new over-the-shoulder camera angle. In this particular trailer, we get a quick glimpse of the prison, the hotel, the park, and of course, Brookhaven Hospital. Everything seems to have been recreated so faithfully that it looks almost identical to the originals.

Silent Hill 2 Remake – one of gaming’s worst-kept secrets before its official reveal in October 2022 – is scheduled to release on October 8, 2024 on PC via Steam and PS5.

Today, in Eurogamer’s Silent Hill 2 Remake preview, Tom Morgan shared his thoughts on the first few hours of the remake.

“For a remake of such a beloved classic with improved graphics and controls, the new combat style fits surprisingly well,” wrote Tom in his excellent summary.

“The puzzles also find their natural place in this world. A remake project is a delicate balancing act for any developer, it’s fair to say: If you stray too far from the source, you risk it, while a lack of innovation defeats the purpose of the whole endeavor.

“What I’ve seen of Silent Hill 2 Remake so far, however, shows a team determined to stick to the original blueprint first. It gives the game a pleasantly familiar structure – while also allowing new details to flourish like a trellis around it – and I’m looking forward to seeing how it evolves after the first three hours.”
