“John Wick 5” could be filmed next year

Keanu Reeves will return as John Wick 5 prepares for filming in 2025. Find more story details here.

When John Wick: Chapter 4 When last year’s The 4000 came out, director Chad Stahelski talked about putting the franchise to “rest,” and that seemed like a good idea. After all, the fourth installment in the popular action series had really pushed the concept to its limits. The scenes, the scope of the narrative, even the runtime – which clocked in at nearly three hours – contributed to the feeling that the team behind the film was giving us everything they could, because this could be the last time Mr. Wick metes out his unique brand of punishment to a horde of faceless thugs.

Those involved in the series would also benefit from a break, it seemed. Chad Stahelski (director of the John Wick Films) seems to have one of the longest project lists in Hollywood. The four John Wick Movies we’ve (thankfully) received over the last decade have meant that the series’ star, Keanu Reeves, hasn’t been able to do much else.

Since both men are currently busy with many interesting-sounding projects, one would have thought that the stone-faced killer might take a longer break, but that does not seem to be the case.

Daniel RPK (via Hollywood Grip) reports that the next John Wick The film is scheduled to shoot in 2025. Work on the script is said to have begun shortly after the end of the strikes last year, while the January announcement that Stahelski would be Lionsgate’s creative overseer for all future wick Projects may have accelerated his return to the director’s chair.

The director is already hard at work in his new role: He has supervised extensive reshoots for the spin-off film, Ballerina, which is due to be released next summer after a delay, while we are also working on the John Wick: Under the High Table TV show that may connect the fourth and fifth films.

Although everyone has their favorite, it is fair to say that there is no really weak film in the John Wick series so far, neither with critics nor at the box office. For that reason alone, Lionsgate has obviously been very enthusiastic about building its future production slate around the series, with film chief Joe Drake publicly stating how keen the studio is to keep things going, stating in March 2023, “We’re not ready to say goodbye to Keanu with this franchise. It’s about what alternative is going to be there.”

If this report turns out to be accurate, it looks like the studio got its way without needing an “alternative,” and we’re just wondering how many more projects Stahelski and Reeves can squeeze into their schedule before this one gets underway.

Stahelski is ready to shoot be Highlanders Remake in early 2025, so where is his Ghost of Tsushima Adaptation, we are not sure. As for Reeves, he is said to have several other action projects in the pipeline, such as BRZRKR and Constantine 2 (as well as a Broadway performance in Waiting for Godotalongside Alex Winter). When we learn more about how this all turns out, rest assured we’ll let you know.
