Harry Barrett Jr., CEO of PSP, spoke about the new service.

“We are excited to have Delta expand its service from Palm Springs. Their new service to JFK not only improves our connectivity to the East Coast, but also provides a high level of comfort and convenience for our passengers. This is a wonderful addition to our growing list of air service options.”

Then and now: The history of Delta Air Lines’ live TV offering

Delta is a pioneer in many areas, but few people know that the Atlanta-based airline is one of the pioneers in live TV streaming.

The aircraft is also equipped with Wi-Fi so passengers can surf the internet or stream their favorite music, TV shows or movies. They can charge their devices as each seat has USB outlets and AC outlets. There are also personal screens on each seatback with live satellite TV for even more in-flight entertainment (IFE) options.

Competition with Alaska

Because Delta only flies on Saturdays, its capacity on this route is significantly lower than Alaska’s. The Seattle-based carrier will fly daily between PSP and JFK with its Boeing 737 aircraft. It will be the second year the seasonal route will be operated after it opened last year. Alaska’s 737s are also equipped with Wi-Fi, USB and AC ports, but do not have seatback screens. Instead, travelers are encouraged to stream IFE to their own devices.

This is PSP’s third new flight connection, showing that the airport’s network is growing as demand increases. This winter, United Airlines will offer new service between PSP and Washington Dulles International Airport with its 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
