U23, Francesco Modesto: “We still have room for improvement”

Francesco Modesto commented on the defeat against Vicenza in the Coppa Italia di Serie C: “We played against a big club, a team that has all the tools to win the title. Although we used a lot of Primavera players, I can say with certainty that we did well. However, there is still room for improvement and we will get there by continuing to work as we have done so far.”

“Just like Palestra last year, Idele was sent off today in his U23 debut. Coach Modesto allowed himself a little oddity. Despite the mishap, I would prefer these mishaps to happen as quickly as possible. Ultimately, they show you where you can improve and they open a window for a comeback. Both teams had their chances. In the end, it was a hard-fought and exciting game.”

In his closing remarks, the Atalanta coach stressed: “Many boys have had the opportunity to develop through loans, their time at Atalanta Primavera or through joint training sessions with the first team. Atalanta’s youth system is a benchmark in itself and is full of young players known for their limitless potential. On the other hand, they will have to find their way in Serie C by cushioning the jump from the Primavera championship. They should prevail with the right competition kit: our aim is to repeat everything we did last season, when we concluded our rookie season with a success.”
