On the occasion of his 81st birthday, Robert De Niro was celebrated as a “Ride or Die” by his daughter Drena De Niro.
The Oscar-winning actor for ‘Taxi Driver’ reached the milestone on Saturday (17.08.24) and his 56-year-old actress and model girlfriend celebrated the occasion with an effusive statement about how much he has supported her over the years.
She also posted a snap of Robert in red and white striped swim shorts jumping from a boat into the sea while on holiday – along with a video of him diving into the water as she said: “Wow he is so crazy.”
In the clip, Drena was then heard asking the Hollywood icon, “Oh my God, are you OK?” – to which Robert replied, “Yes, I’m fine.”
She was then heard saying “Shit” when someone told her that Robert had jumped about thirty feet into the water.
Drena also paid tribute to her famous father by sharing old photos of him giving their late son Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez a bottle of milk as a toddler, with the grandfather-grandson duo smiling together.
Alongside a final picture on her birthday carousel, showing Robert on a beach with two of his grandchildren, she said: “Happy 81st birthday dad and #1 ride or die… I love you with all my (three heart emojis) #BobbyD forever (star, crown and star emojis.)”
Drena’s son Leandro was 19 when he died in July from the toxic effects of a drug combination of fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-aminoclonazepam, ketamine and cocaine.
The New York City Medical Examiner ruled his death an accident, and Drena later said on Instagram that “someone sold him pills laced with fentanyl.”
Leandro was a part-time actor who appeared in the 2018 film “A Star Is Born” and was found dead in an apartment in the Wall Street district of Lower Manhattan.
Robert said at the time that he was “deeply saddened by the death of my beloved grandson Leo.”
