Corus Entertainment cancels “Big Brother Canada” after 12 seasons

Corus Entertainment announced on Thursday that after 12 seasons of Big Brother Canadathe popular reality TV series is being cancelled. The announcement comes after the show was conspicuously absent from the company’s current TV schedule for 2024/2025.

Superfans continue to actively support the series. There is even a petition written by fans circulating online to save the series.

“Today, as we say goodbye to the beloved series, we celebrate its great success and impact Big Brother Canada in our country and in the Canadian media landscape for over a decade,” said Troy Reeb, Co-CEO of Corus Entertainment, in a statement. “Global will always be proud to be the home of Big Brother Canada for 12 seasons and we are grateful to our partners at Banijay Rights for their support and advice and Insight Productions for their passion, dedication and creativity.”

“We want to thank executive producer Erin Brock and host and executive producer Arisa Cox for always delivering thought-provoking conversations, telling uniquely Canadian stories and reflecting Canada’s diverse culture in one of television’s greatest social experiments. This series and the production team behind it have truly set the standard for entertaining, improvisational television. And finally, we want to thank our #BBCAN fanbase: you all have kept the show alive and we thank you for joining us on this journey for the past 12 seasons.”

The Big Brother The franchise began in the Netherlands in the 1990s and grew in popularity as it spread around the world.

The format of the show is that a group of people move into a house together and are watched 24/7. Houseguests are voted out of the competition until one winner remains.

Most recently, Bayleigh Pelham from Halifax won the 12th season of Big Brother Canada. Pelham won $200,000 in cash and prizes including $10,000 in cash, $10,000 from TonyBet, $10,000 from Philips Sonicare Oral Care, a new wardrobe from WINNERS, a Samsung Galaxy prize package valued at $10,000, $10,000 from Endy, a vacation with Sunwing and a 2024 INFINITI QX60 SUV.

While the fans were particularly loyal Big Brother CanadaHowever, the series was criticized when the decision was made in season 11 to eliminate the popular live feeds and replace them with videos called “Digital Dailies”.

But while some changes were made that probably didn’t serve the series well, it is the end of an era with the loss of Big Brother Canada.
