Arshad Nadeem’s interpretation of the ‘buffalo’ gift from father-in-law

Arshad Nadeem, the celebrated javelin thrower, has been showered with numerous honours and awards following his victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics. His remarkable throw of 92.97m not only earned him the first place but also made him a national hero in Pakistan. The awards Nadeem received include PKR 150 million, gold crowns, a civil award and a Honda Civic with a specially designed number plate reading ‘PAK 92.97’. However, the most talked about gift came from his father-in-law, who gifted him a buffalo.

The buffalo gift and Nadeem’s amusing answer

In a light-hearted interview with Pakistani news channel News, Nadeem made a humorous comment about the gift from his father-in-law, who is the father of his wife Ayesha. He joked that he would have preferred five acres of land to the buffalo, but admitted that a buffalo was not a bad gift. Ayesha admitted that she did not know about the gift beforehand and only found out about it through the interview. Nadeem said that he had teased his wife about the gift and jokingly suggested that her father could have given her something else.

In addition, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz presented him with PKR 10 million and the aforementioned Honda Civic.

Nadeem’s victory was particularly significant as he managed to beat India’s Neeraj Chopra, the first time he had beaten Neeraj in any of the ten javelin events. His success at the Paris Olympics not only brought him personal recognition but also cemented his place as a revered figure in Pakistan.
