Yankton celebrates the “Mighty Meridian” with its 41st annual Riverboat Days and Summer Arts Festival

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Yankton brought the community together again for the 41st annual Riverboat Days and Summer Arts Festival.

This year’s theme is “The Mighty Meridian” because the Meridian Pedestrian Bridge celebrates its 100th anniversary in October this year.

From Friday to Sunday, the festival brought together around 120 art vendors, 40 food vendors and dozens of activities for children.

Hundreds gathered at Riverside Park to enjoy a variety of free events, including a tractor show from the Tri State Old Iron Association, chainsaw sculptures and more for everyone to enjoy.

“We couldn’t put this event together without the community,” said Kellie Holmstrom, 2024 Yankton’s Riverboat Days Belle. “There are 13 board members, but we rely on the entire community, whether it’s money, services, or in-kind donations that we can use to make it all happen. We really need everyone in the community.”

Michele Termansen, co-chair of Riverboat Days, says attendance has grown to as many as 100,000 since the festival began in 1984. What they are most looking forward to is the many live musicians at the venue… including “Diamante” and “LIT,” who will take to the main stage at 9 p.m. on Saturday night.

“It’s always so much fun to hear that loud music and see the crowd up there in the parking lot, and everyone is having a lot of fun,” Termansen said.

The festival continues Saturday night through Sunday afternoon with even more great festivities. For more information on upcoming events, follow this link.
