Madonna celebrates 66th birthday in lingerie

Is 66 a milestone birthday? Madonna believes so, at least if you take her multi-day celebration as a benchmark.

The “Like A Prayer” singer celebrated the occasion this week in locations from Portofino to Pompeii.

She pulled off as many lingerie-inspired outfit changes as she would on a music tour, wearing a pink silk corset with garter belt and fishnet stockings and a red feather cape over a draped dress – all custom-made for her by her friends, Italian designer duo Dolce & Gabbana.

The final look consisted of a black lace bustier and a sheer white organza and lace dress, with heavy gold body chains and some huge earrings. Madonna chose the outfit while touring the Teatro Grande in Pompeii and meeting with teenagers involved in the “Dream of Flying” community project, which aims to educate local children about the UNESCO World Heritage site.

It has been suggested that supporting the itinerary – both financially and with a public photo opportunity – would enable the star to host a dinner party at the historic venue, specifically the 2,200-year-old Teatro Grande amphitheater.

Although Madonna clearly visited the ruins, officials from the Pompeii Archaeological Park issued a statement this week denying rumors that the star had paid to host a “mega party” at the ruins.

“Regarding the rumours circulating in the press these days about a ‘mega-party’ of an international celebrity with 500 guests at the Pompeii excavations and an alleged rent of 30,000 euros (£25,500) for the Great Theatre, the Archaeological Park clarifies that these are unfounded reports,” the translated statement said.
