Washington Post’s Taylor Lorenz says Biden’s ‘war criminal’ post is an ‘obvious meme’ after claiming it was edited

Washington Post columnist Taylor Lorenz changes her story after initially claiming her “war criminal” piece about President Biden was edited.

Lorenz went viral on Thursday after a screenshot of an Instagram post obtained by New York Post reporter Jon Levine showed her taking a selfie with Biden in the background at a White House event. The caption included the text “war criminal” and a sad face.

“You guys fall for every stupid change someone makes,” Lorenz Levine replied to X.

On Friday, Lorenz not only admitted it was real, she also insisted it was a joke.

“I literally never ‘denied it was real,'” Lorenz told one critic on X. She told another it was an “obvious meme.”

There was speculation on the Internet that Lorenz was referring to the musician Lucy Dacus. who called former President Obama a “war criminal” on social media last year, also with a sad face.

Fox News learned that the post was created in an Instagram story and specifically used the “close friends” feature (indicated by the green star icon). This means that the post was not posted publicly and could only be seen by a select group of Instagram users of their choosing.

NPR had previously reported that “four people with direct knowledge” of the post had “confirmed its authenticity.”

“Only about 7 people saw the post with the really close friends (I have very few people on CF) and almost all of them are my normal friends outside of the media. So (I don’t know) who this guy is talking about (to be honest),” Lorenz responded to NPR’s coverage.

A Washington Post spokesperson previously told Fox News Digital, “We are aware of the alleged social media post and are investigating it,” but declined to comment further.

Lorenz did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Biden has been repeatedly attacked by the far left for his handling of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Many derided him as “Genocide Joe” for continuing to provide military aid to the Jewish state after the October 7 terrorist attack. Lorenz, known for her extreme left views, is a sharp critic of Israel.

Lorenz has a long history of controversy in social media and in their reporting tactics.
