Hazy, humid weather leads to possible flooding in Brooklyn this weekend

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires is clearly visible on Friday, with skies gray and muted. Fortunately, the smoke has not significantly affected air quality as it is floating high in the sky. The smoke will mostly clear tonight and be replaced by showers and storms over the weekend.

Highs reached nearly 90 degrees on Friday and felt like just under 90 degrees, but this heat won’t last long as highs on Saturday will be just under 80 degrees. It will be dry most of the day and the rain showers will hold off until about midnight Saturday night.

Scattered showers and downpours are expected on Sunday morning, but no precipitation. Showers and thunderstorms will continue to spread through Sunday evening, with isolated severe thunderstorms possible.

There will also be a chance of heavy downpours Sunday evening into Monday morning. As the timing becomes clearer, check with News 12’s storm watching team for the hourly forecast.

These downpours aren’t the only storm to keep an eye on. Hurricane Ernesto will make its closest approach on Sunday, bringing strong surf and rip current conditions. Learn more about what to expect and how it might affect beach plans.

Once the showers and thunderstorms subside on Monday evening, the middle of next week will be unusually cool. Highs will barely exceed 24 degrees and lows will drop to nearly 16 degrees at night. A real taste of autumn is on the way!
