PUBG publisher Krafton acquires Tango Gameworks – London Business News

Tango Gameworks, developer of Hi-Fi RUSH, was recently acquired by Krafton, publisher of PUBG.

Microsoft announced earlier this year in May that it would be shutting down Tango Gameworks, as well as Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Studios, and Roundhouse Games, so Krafton’s acquisition of Tango Gameworks from Microsoft is like breathing new life into a promising project.

Key findings:

  • Tango Gameworks are the developers behind infamously dark games like The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, as well as the critically acclaimed Hi-Fi RUSH.
  • Hi-Fi RUSH, the latest game from Tango Gameworks, currently has a rating of 9/10 on IGN and 10/10 on Steam.
  • Earlier this year in May, Microsoft announced that it would close Tango Gameworks and three other studios: Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Studios and Roundhouse Games.
  • Many fans expressed their displeasure with this decision, as Tango Gameworks had released some great games that also sold exceptionally well in the market.
  • However, many fans are pleased with the news that Tango Gameworks is being acquired by Krafton, bringing new momentum to the company.

Syed Arham, writer at TheSolitaire.com, is excited about the news and stated, “Tango Gameworks has made some really great games. Although they were known for dark games like The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, they really hit the mark with Hi-Fi RUSH, a completely different rhythm-based action RPG that received some good reviews. IGN gave it 9/10, for example, while fans rated it 10/10 on Steam, which really reflects its success.”

“However, fans were equally emotional in expressing their disappointment when they learned that Microsoft would be closing the studio along with three other studios. With that in mind, anyone can understand why so many gamers, like me, are thrilled to read that Krafton, publisher of the infamous battle royale game PUBG, has taken Tango Gameworks under its wing with no intention of disrupting their successful projects,” he adds.

Krafton made the following announcement on their website, where we all learned of this good news: “KRAFTON, Inc. today welcomed the talented people of Tango Gameworks to its team. This is an exciting moment in the company’s global expansion and its first significant investment in the Japanese video game market. This strategic move includes the rights to Tango Gameworks’ acclaimed IP, Hi-Fi RUSH.”

“Under this strategic agreement, KRAFTON intends to work with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks, allowing the talented team to continue developing the Hi-Fi RUSH IP and explore future projects. KRAFTON intends to support the team at Tango Gameworks in continuing its commitment to innovation and bringing fresh and exciting experiences to fans. The existing game catalog of The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo and the original Hi-Fi RUSH game will not be affected,” they further added.

Towards the end of the announcement, the company also links the acquisition to its larger ambitions: “This integration underscores KRAFTON’s commitment to expanding its global presence and expanding its portfolio with innovative and high-quality content. The addition of Tango Gameworks represents a strategic alignment with KRAFTON’s mission to push the boundaries of interactive entertainment.”
