Cousins born within a few hours of each other in neighboring rooms at CCMH

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – Some people share a birthday with their cousin, but rarely are they born on the same day, in the same hospital, right next to each other.

“Her delivery room was right across from mine,” said Andrew Petro, the father of newborn Olivia. “I could knock on the wall and ask, ‘Hey, are you OK in there?'”

Now the newborns are separated by just a single room while their mothers recover with the support of brothers Andrew and Heath Petro.

Mikaela Petro, Tazzlynn’s mother, says the process was definitely unique.

“Even my cousin was there and kept an eye on her monitor for us. Then my brother-in-law kept an eye on my monitor while his wife was in labor. So it was a nice sequence to watch each other give birth to our children,” said Mikaela.

Stephanie Duncan, Olivia Petro’s mother, says she is excited to share this with her sister-in-law.

“Yeah, I’m definitely excited. It doesn’t happen very often, so it’s something we can share as a family,” Stephanie said. “I don’t know if they’ll like it when they’re older, but we’ll see.”

If there’s anyone more excited than the parents, it’s grandmother Lynn Petro, who says this event will create a bond between the children before they even leave the hospital.

“It’s going to be like sisters. I mean, I know they’re cousins, but they have the same birthday. We’re a close-knit family, so it’s going to be great,” Lynn exclaimed.
