Heat remains the big issue this weekend

Heat remains the big issue this weekend

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana (KPLC) – More heat and humidity is expected in SWLA this weekend, with just a few afternoon thunderstorms.

This weekend, summer will be back in style. It will still be very hot, with highs on Saturday and Sunday expected to be between 35 and 40 degrees! This also means that the heat index will reach 43 degrees in places, so it is still important to stay hydrated.

If you’re looking for some cooling rain, we should squeeze out a few thunderstorms in the afternoon. With the high-altitude high pressure that’s been plaguing us so much lately staying a little further west, there’s a slightly higher chance of a few afternoon thunderstorms on Saturday as well. Keep an eye on the skies whatever you plan to do, but also be aware that heat will remain the main issue.

The forecast for next week shows very little change to hot and mostly dry weather. Since we’re on the edge of the high pressure system in the upper atmosphere, we’ll see if any disturbances come in and increase the chance of rain a bit. Otherwise, it will stay hot and mostly dry. In addition, a weak front *might* try to move in mid-next week. If it succeeds, that would mean a bit less humidity. But there’s still plenty of time for that to change.

The tropics remain very close to SWLA and there is no danger of anything developing in our area! We are monitoring Hurricane Ernesto near Puerto Rico. Ernesto is moving north across the western Atlantic and will remain well east of the United States, so it obviously poses NO threat to SWLA.
