I intend to win. I won’t be able to do that as an independent. I’ve chosen the Democratic Party because it best fits the future I want to build for Florida.”

PEMBROKE PINES, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, August 16, 2024 /EINPresswire.com/ – Evelyn Castillo-Bach officially announces that she officially filed to change her political party affiliation this week and has switched to the Democratic Party as an Independent.

“I have been registered as an independent voter for longer than I can remember. Switching to the Republican or Democratic Party was not an option for me. I have always voted for the best candidates, regardless of political party. However, because I intend to run for Governor of Florida in 2026, I must declare my party affiliation. I intend to win. Running as an independent will not get me there. I vote Democratic because it best aligns with the future I want to build for Florida. It is not a perfect fit. Absolutely not. But it is the best choice. It is consistent with the candidacy and victory I envision,” Castillo-Bach said from her residence in Pembroke Pines, Broward County.

Evelyn, as she prefers to be called, has lived in Florida since 1998. She was born and raised in New York City. Evelyn did not learn English until fourth grade. Her mother emigrated to the United States from Cuba in 1948. Her father was born and raised in Puerto Rico.

Evelyn became a mother at 19 and was unmarried. She graduated with honors with a concentration in cultural anthropology and biomedicine and received her MS (Master of Science) from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Evelyn is mother of three sons:

– The youngest son is an aerospace engineer and works in Munich. He graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

– Evelyn’s middle son graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in New York. He was an aspiring opera singer and film director. In May 2016, he succumbed to an epileptic seizure that caused catastrophic brain damage. His organs were donated.

– Evelyn’s first-born son was sentenced to life in prison in Miami-Dade County in 2001. He maintains his innocence.

Evelyn and her husband Peter Bach have been together for almost 30 years. Peter is a Danish citizen, educated in Denmark and has practiced law in post-conflict countries, focusing on rule of law, security issues and human rights. He earned his Master of Laws (LLM) from the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, DC.

Evelyn sees a bright future for Florida and its citizens:
“I’m an optimist. Florida is a beautiful state. The nature and the climate are fantastic. Many people are doing well here. But all Floridians see and know that there are too many Floridians – good people, hard-working people – who are barely making ends meet,” explained Castillo-Bach.

Evelyn is currently the Executive Director of the Balanced Justice Network – Changing the System. Founded in August 2023, the organization advocates for criminal justice reform, second chances, and transparency in settlements and sentencing.
