Linden – Thousands of people came to see the vintage cars that lined the streets of downtown Linden on Wednesday, August 7, for the third annual Linden Tune-Up Party.
The Linden Tune-Up Party, organized by Southern Lakes Parks & Recreation, is one of the main summer events for the Back to the Bricks car shows.
Thousands of car lovers enjoyed the hot weather and collecting classic vehicles on Tuesday.
DJ Scott Kool provided the music. Kool has been DJing at car shows since 2002. He plays about 175 shows each year between April and October. Most of them are in Michigan, but he also DJs in Florida and Scottsdale.
“The key to the Car Cruise guys and this whole group – and there will never be another group like this as we all get older and die, and that’s the way it is – is that you get to know these guys. They’re very personal, they care a lot about their cars. They all want maybe their car from high school or college. A lot of them spend a lot of money to get their car back to original condition because that car means something to them.”
Kool is a car guy. His first car was a 1966 Mustang GT Flashback. Over the years he has also owned a 1969 Corvette with 427, a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 and a 1971 Corvette.
To judge whether he’s chosen good music, he observes people. “If their feet aren’t tapping or something, or they’re not coming up to you and telling you you did a good job, you better change,” he said.
One of the artists he always plays is Bob Seger, who he used to race against in Michigan. Kool also chooses the music depending on the weather and the mood of the event. He always plays the national anthem.
Attendees also enjoyed several food trucks, shopping in downtown Linden, and a 50/50 raffle. The band Image played at the Sharp-Kimble Gazebo.
