According to WFAA, all children in Dallas ISD will receive free meals in the 2024-2025 school year, according to the Food and Child Nutrition Services (FCNS) department.
The school district claims that the CEP allows qualified schools to offer free meals to all students regardless of their financial situation.
Under the CEP, families will no longer be required to submit applications indicating their household income if they wish to receive free school meals,” FCNS said in a press release.
According to FCNS, children who eat healthy foods tend to be more successful in school, getting better grades, participating in class more, and having fewer behavioral problems.
Dallas ISD has been providing free meals for several years, even before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dallas ISD believes the CEP will help reduce people’s negative feelings about traditional free school meal programs by providing free meals to all children.
Dallas ISD said the CEP avoids unnecessary costs and reduces stigma.
