Local health coach teaches women self-love and intuitive eating

REXBURG – Many women struggle with their body image, and a local health coach is on a mission to change that.

Morgan Norman is an intuitive eating and self-love health coach. She works with women who have some kind of dysfunctional relationship with food. This could be food restriction, binge eating, guilt around eating, or poor body image.

“We don’t care about weight loss,” Norman said. “We just focus on behavior.”

Norman’s health problems began at the age of 19. She developed a stomach infection that led to significant weight loss.

“I started getting more and more comments about my body that I wasn’t really used to,” Norman said. “So I did everything I could to keep it that way.”

Norman developed two eating disorders and realized she could not continue on that path. She worked with a team of doctors, health coaches and therapists.

“Through my own healing and my own struggles, I realized that I wasn’t the only one struggling and that I needed a team to get back to health,” Norman said. “Once I was healed, I decided I wanted to be part of that team for other women and help them overcome some of their struggles because it’s a lot more common than we think.”

Norman received her Integrative Nutrition Health Coach Certification from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. She then launched her program, The Self Love League.

She has helped dozens of women overcome their eating issues. She works individually with clients for 12 weeks to develop healthy habits and thought patterns through tasks and weekly check-ins.

As the name suggests, the Self Love League is about recognizing your own worth, no matter what stage of life you are in.

“You’re not ashamed to do anything – you love yourself no matter what you do,” Norman said.

Norman helps her clients identify how they view their bodies through body image zones. In the green zone, one sees the body as God intended it. In the yellow zone, one begins to talk negatively to oneself. In the red zone, body image is poor and the person stops eating.

Jordan Marshall, a recent graduate of the Self Love League, has found body image zones to be very helpful.

“I could catch myself getting into the yellow or red zone a lot more often,” Marshall said. “That’s going to happen. It’s normal, but I can actually use some of the tools she’s given me to get back into the green.”

Every client is different, so Norman personalizes her coaching and takes small steps. For Marshall, it started with eating a fruit and a vegetable every day.

“Their tasks were very individual, which I really liked,” Marshall said.

A large part of The Self Love League program is based on intuitive eating, which, according to Norman, is about listening to your body’s signals.

“This is your body’s way of communicating hunger,” Norman said. “Is it physical sensations, irritability, lack of energy?”

All coaching sessions are virtual and Marshall says the program has made all the difference.

“I didn’t realize I needed this at the time,” Marshall said. “Now I can look at my body and see that it’s a tool, not a burden.”

Norman wants to make the program affordable, especially for students. She offers her clients installment plans starting at $250 per month.
