Thrasher Magazine – Photos from the premiere of “Blanket” by Daniel Wheatley

Thrasher Magazine – Photos from the premiere of “Blanket” by Daniel Wheatley

About a month ago I had to get this video done quickly – a classic buzzer beater that was edited up until the day before the premiere. This video was almost two years in the making, in LA and London. It was great to be able to show the video in both cities. And as is usual with a classic skate premiere, a lot had to go wrong. What should have been a very fun night of letting go and enjoying the fruits of our labor always has to be a little stressful, right? So let’s double the stress and invite some SOTYs, icons and industry bigwigs to watch our little video. That should help!

001 RIDE Blanket Premiere 2000We begin with our first premiere in historic Los Feliz, an idyllic setting for a movie night

002 RIDE Blanket Premiere 2000Uncle Neck is there! Luckily, Neckface hates heckling, so I was glad he brought his typical bubbly cheerfulness to the premiere.

003 RIDE Blanket Premiere 2000Industry nerds – I mean, titans! Colin Kennedy, Eric Swisher, The Mez and Nate Coffman are here to keep an eye on where skating stands in 2024

004 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000The crowd is gradually evening out, at least in terms of age. Molly, Stephen, Lucas, Shane and Ethan

005 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000Ron Parker uses his “in-the-video” status to request ten tickets for a 60-seat theater

006 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000The boss comes, the fear increases

007 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000Another Baker Boy on site: Ron Parker with Mike Gigliotti

008 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000A few of the LA stars featured in the video. It must be a crazy feeling to show up for the first part of the video. Mingus Gamble and Shane Farber finally get to see their clips a second time.

009 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000Wow! MC IRL

010 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000You need to get a hug from your old boss

011 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000Looks like Spanky altered this photo, but unfortunately he wasn’t there

012 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000Nick Michel, former player of Carroll, Gigliotti and Lotties, sneaks in

013 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000Jay Bone brings his typical calming energy. Thankful for that

014 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000I had to take a photo with the star of the show for Dayz

015 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000Okay, we made it in and we’re overloaded. Thanks for sitting on the floor, Carroll!

016 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000I always have something really good in mind for these moments and without exception I wander off

017 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000I’m sure there will be words of thanks and greetings for days to come. That’s enough!

018 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000Okay, let’s start the show

019 RITT Blanket PremiereTwenty minutes seems like an eternity to me these days! It was a nice feeling when that appeared on the screen

020 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000Front, after the show, with the Gamble family. Interesting fact: Mingus is actually the second most famous Gamble in this picture

021 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000The girl family was also there to support the Gambles: Manch, Rickk, Mez, Smyth, Carroll and OG Girl boss Johannes Gamble!

022 RITT Blanket Premiere 2000That’s it for LA! Off to London

001 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Landed in England, and apparently our backdrop is this atmospheric black and white mood

002 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Adam Hunter and Jack Brooks from Palace are the first to arrive

003 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000VIP area with a view of the point

004 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Dime Boys were in town from Montreal. I love how skating works like that

005 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Josh Wilson somehow made it too? With Gareth Skewis, Phil Lavoie and Torey Goodall. Greetings, New Jersey, South Africa, Montreal and Vancouver

006 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000This is Michael J Fox from iPath Summer Preview 2005 Video fame with the mind behind Palace’s incredibly creative visuals Stuart Hammond and the mother of my unborn child Adwoa! Strong crew

007 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000I didn’t know these guys, but they were a great time. I also heard good things about the girls from Sweden

008 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Video star Matlok Bennett-Jones shows Casper Brooker what is likely to be some of his most notable winning runs at competitions in Sheffield

009 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000What the hell?! I’m pretty sure Nikolai is simultaneously here in London, in Baker Park, in Copenhagen on Red Square, at Lot 11 in Miami and today in LA filming a WKND sketch. But strangely, no Za

010 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Friends smoking cigarettes everywhere, just beautiful

011 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Jamie Platt and Matlok, booted

012 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Phil, Vince, Josh, Big Sexy, Hugo, Torey and Lloyd. What’s a synonym for “squaded”, Alex?

013 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000I can’t say if it’s just the black and white photos, but people in London seem to have a sexier side compared to those in LA.

014 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Casper with Kelly and Tom Knox. Simply wonderful

015 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Matlok with Lost Art/NB Numeric/The North’s legendary representative Dave Mackey

016 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Had to take a photo with the English star of the video. Don’t miss Matlok, Internet!

017 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Okay, it’s time to move the party indoors

018 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Everyone seems ready. Thank goodness I’m taking these photos and not one of me giving another rambling speech!

019 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000I always enjoy meeting Charlie. His stuff is some of my favorites in the video

020 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 1500Oh shit, we’re in color!

021 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000The nerves begin to calm down. The crowd seemed to enjoy it

022 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000Kyron and Mackey don’t want to leave! I’m flattered guys, but I also rent this place by the hour and it’s a little over my budget looking at the seats

023 LONDON BLANKET PREM WHEAT 2000You know how the rest of the night went with this London crew. Cheers to everyone who came out to London and LA. It really meant the world to me. Stay tuned for the video coming soon!
