John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s appearance on the “Mike Douglas Show” is the subject of a new documentary

John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s famous co-hosting appearance at The Mike Douglas Show in 1972 is the subject of a new documentary film.

Daily Revolution will be released in select theaters on October 9, Lennon’s 84th birthday. Deadline quotes a press release for the film, which states: “‘Daytime Revolution’ takes us back in time as we watch John and Yoko interact with a captivated studio audience in insightful Q&A sessions in which John Lennon spoke with astonishing candor about his life after the Beatles. John and Yoko also got to choose the guests, some of whom were very controversial at the time, such as (anti-war activist and Yippie) Jerry Rubin and Black Panther Bobby Seale, as well as Ralph Nader and George Carlin.”

Chuck Berry was another notable guest during Lennon and Ono’s co-hosting tenure. Here’s a nice clip of Lennon introducing the rock’n’roll pioneer. (We’re leaving out clips of Ono “singing” with Lennon and Berry for your ears, but feel free to search for them at your leisure.)

Deadline notes that at the time of the week John and Yoko co-hosted The Mike Douglas Showit was an election year and the same year as the Watergate break-in. Although the documentary was scheduled to be completed in fall 2022, director Erik Nelson decided to hold off on the film until 2024, when the United States prepares for another presidential election.

Nelson told Deadline: “We have Daytime all but locked in for fall 2022, but made a conscious decision to delay release until the 2024 election season because we firmly believed that the film’s optimistic and idealistic message would be a far more welcome ‘letter from home’ the closer we got to November 5, which promised to be apocalyptic and suspenseful.th. We were definitely right in this assumption!”

Away Release, a trailer for Daily Revolution has not been released yet. It will be interesting to see if the The documentary’s “optimistic and idealistic message” will break through and resonate in this turbulent election campaign. Certainly any attempt at optimism will always be welcomed by some, and there will likely be many parallels between 1972 and today. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Daily Revolution will be released in theaters or on streaming platforms long before November 5th. The film has the potential to become an absolute must-see.
