Story snippets, Fatality, new skins and more to see
As promised, Ed Boon and his team at NetherRealm Studios have released the new Cyrax gameplay and story trailer for the Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns update, which also gives us a release date for three of the game’s upcoming DLC characters.
While Cyrax is clearly modeled after the character we’ve long known and loved, she’s changed more than just her gender. Read on to learn more about the newest great martial artist.
As is to be expected from the Lin Kuei, Cyrax is clearly involved in betrayal and unexpected alliances. We see her speaking to Scorpion about his disappearance and a potentially unwanted connection with Sub-Zero.
Cyrax also clashes with Sektor later in the trailer, noting that while the latter is her instructor and commander, he is not her superior. They then embark on a great fight sequence in which Cyrax shows off more backflip kicks and bombs.
Much of the character’s fighting style is characterized by a sense of soaring agility, as she almost dances through the air towards her opponents. This theme continues in her Fatality sequence, where she basically uses parkour to kill Johnny Cage with a special grace not seen in many of MK1’s kill animations.
Those who pre-order Khaos Reigns will also receive four new skins, including Wedding Scorpion, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Sub-Zero, Empress Mileena, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Noob Saibot (see image 9 in the gallery below).

Cyrax was originally revealed as part of the Kombat Pack 2 update “Khaos Reigns”, which will bring six DLC characters (Ghostface from the Scream series, Conan the Barbarian, the T-1000 from Terminator 2, Noob Saibot, Sektor, and Cyax) as well as a story mode expansion.
Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot will be available to purchase and play when Khaos Reigns launches on September 24. Conan, Ghostface, and the T-1000 will be available at a later date.
There are actually three tiers available for Khaos Reigns: the “Expansion,” the “Pack,” and the “Collection.” The Expansion includes just the new characters and Story Mode, the Pack adds Kombat Pack 1 and the Jean Claude Van Damme Johnny Cage skin, and the Collection includes the base game for those who don’t already have MK1.
