King Charles congratulates his sister Princess Anne on her birthday in a royal way.

Princess Anne celebrated her 74th birthday on August 15 and the King’s team sent their congratulations on the occasion via social media.

“Wishing the Princess Royal a very happy birthday today!” courtiers wrote on X, referring to the king’s sister by her royal title, along with a birthday cake emoji and three photos.

The pictures showed Princess Anne at the Not Forgotten Association’s annual garden party at Buckingham Palace in London in May, and Princess Anne and King Charles in military uniform at a rehearsal for Trooping the Colour in June 2023.

A third snapshot was a sweet souvenir photo of the brother and sister as children, smiling and sitting together on a blanket in the grass.

King Charles, 75, and Princess Anne were born less than two years apart and are known to be very close. Speaking before Princess Anne took part in the procession through London following the coronation of the King and Queen Camilla, Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall said the thoughtful tribute reflected the close bond between her mother and uncle.

“It’s a busy time for all of them and she and her brother are very close, so it’s a nice gesture,” Zara told PEOPLE before the coronation ceremony.

King Charles’ team referred to Princess Anne as “Princess Royal” in their recent birthday greetings, respectfully referring to the title she received from her late mother, Queen Elizabeth, in June 1987 at the age of 36.

Princess Royal is the traditional title for the monarch’s eldest daughter and is given for life. According to the royal family website, Princess Anne is the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth and the late Prince Philip and the seventh Princess Royal in the history of the British monarchy.

She is associated with over 300 charities, organizations and military regiments in the UK and around the world and is regularly described as the “hardest working royal” considering the number of her official engagements in the Court Circular, the official register of past engagements of the royal family.

Many of the Royal Family’s patrons and other supported organizations also sent birthday greetings on 15 August, including the Royal College of AnaesthetistsThe Woolf Institute and the British Horse Racing Authority.

The dedicated equestrian (and first member of the British royal family to compete in the Olympics!) had a scare earlier this summer when she suffered a concussion and minor injuries in a horse-related “incident” at her country home. Buckingham Palace announced on June 24 that the Princess Royal had been hospitalized the day before and went home later in the week after a five-day stay.

Because Princess Anne suffered a concussion, the exact details of the accident cannot be determined, but her injuries indicate a possible impact with the head or legs of a horse.

On July 12, Princess Anne began a gradual return to royal duties with a visit to the Riding for the Disabled Association national championships, prompting Prince William and Kate Middleton to send a message of support.

“Great guy! So great to see you again so soon! W & C x,” the Prince and Princess of Wales wrote on X, reposting the royal family’s message and photos of Princess Anne’s day trip.
