Impact of Decor Cabinets Charity Classic continues to grow after Thursday’s tournament – PembinaValleyOnline.com

The legacy of the Decor Cabinets Charity Golf Classic continues to grow, with the 21st edition of the fundraiser taking place Thursday at Minnewasta Golf and Country Club.

“It means a lot to me,” said tournament director Dave Schellenberg, who pointed out that it was once again a packed event with 144 golfers. “It’s a way for us to give back to the community, but also share our values, our culture, who we are and what we want to show the community. That’s a big part of the tournament, and of course the biggest part of the tournament is raising money for these four local charities that we had today.”

These charities are YFC Morden, Pembina Counselling Centre and Pembina Valley Pregnancy Care Centre, which have been supported by the fundraiser since its inception, with the fourth changing each year. This year 500 Stephen Street in Morden was chosen.

“The fourth charity changes every year and depends on what the owners Stan and Connie Pauls want to do that year. This year they chose 500 Stephen Street, the local food bank and community center, which is a great choice,” he explained. “We all know that with food inflation and all that kind of stuff, there’s a greater need than ever for services like this, so we thought this year would be a great opportunity to build up some help.”

Stan Pauls, CEO and owner of Decor Cabinets, said it is a great honor to host the tournament every year.

“I am always reminded that each of us can make a difference in someone else’s life. When we come together, we can make a huge difference in many people’s lives,” Pauls said. “It’s just an honor to come together with many of our suppliers, supporters and friends and raise money for these four amazing charities.”

Schellenberg thanked everyone who continued to support the event.

“A huge thank you to the whole local community and our suppliers for helping us make this possible,” he said. “They have really worked with us to provide the support for the charities that we can generate with it. We see this as a partnership where they like the cause. They like what we do and they support it. It’s very satisfying to see that we can all come together to support the same cause.”

And how much money was raised this year? Schellenberg estimates just under $110,000. That brings the total amount raised by the Decor Cabinets Charity Golf Classic since its inception to nearly $1.66 million.
