MAFS 2025 is already shaping up to be a year for the history books, as filming for the new season has already hit a few hurdles – and not the tasty ones you’d find at Bunnings on a Sunday. From a former couple “accidentally” brought together at the altar to producers desperately searching for replacement cast members, the relationship reality show seems to be hitting a few hurdles.
Speaking of beating, a source tells Yahoo Lifestyle that Channel Nine plans to implement security measures in MAFS At dinner parties after the first week, “two couples stood up and almost got into a physical altercation.” The insider went on to say that some of the production’s cast members said they didn’t feel safe, adding, “It would have turned into ‘fisticuffs’ if they hadn’t been separated.”
Physical combat or underhanded cunning?
The source revealed that the altercation may have been part of a larger plan by the contestant, suggesting that it may have been a ploy to get more screen time and that “the cast has already figured out the producer’s secret tricks.”

“Conflicts at dinner parties are not uncommon, but they have become the focus of storylines to draw attention to the biggest personalities of the season,” the source said. “The fact that it was week one and everyone was already at loggerheads was unusual for the Australian version of Married at first sight.”
Our insider also explains that many of the 2025 cast members have sought advice from previous contestants and “done their research.”
The cast of 2025 MAFS came prepared
“Last year, Jayden Eynaud was coached by his brother, the former MAFS Candidate Mitch, on how to be a great player in the MAFS Ice rink,” the source said Yahoo Australia. “He knew a lot more than the others and positioned himself as a key player at the group’s dinners. He was the instigator of many conversations and did this to get noticed.”
A former MAFS One contestant confirmed that the fight for the limelight at dinner parties is a very real concern. “You know you’re part of the main storylines when you’re in the top six – in the middle of the table,” he said. “When you’re sitting on the edge of the dinner table, the producer isn’t really interested in your story. It’s a fight to get those seats.”
Former MAFS Bride Tahnee Cook previously confirmed this in her column for Yahoo Lifestyle He writes: “If you pay attention to who sits in the middle of the table, you get an idea of who will be the focus of the drama that night. Ollie and I never sat in the middle, we always had seats at the end of the table, which was great for getting out of the drama, but annoying when we couldn’t hear what was going on.”
Dinner parties may require security to be present
Despite the contestant’s obvious desire for airtime – and his willingness to do whatever it takes to get it – the source says, “Nobody expected the uproar this early in the season, and it shouldn’t be production’s responsibility to break people up.”
While the health and safety of the cast and crew is obviously incredibly important to Channel Nine and Endemol Shine, insiders also say that bringing security guards along and showing them on camera could give a bad impression.

“It’s all very Jerry Springer-esque, with the cast primed for drama and ready to fight,” says the source. “It will no doubt anger viewers who see this addition as encouraging this kind of physical conflict.”
“One thing is certain: there must be a solution to the dinner party flow,” they said. “Especially when more than just wine is served.”
