Prosecutors have dropped proceedings against a Sydney criminal defence lawyer who was accused of illegally publishing details about an alleged victim of sexual assault.

Abdul Saddik appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Thursday morning where the single charge of publishing information relating to a complainant in a prescribed sex offence was withdrawn and dismissed.

Mr Saddik told ABC News he was “glad” the case was “short-lived”.

“This charge never reflected my boundless commitment to my career over the years,” Mr. Saddik said.

“The work I do on the cases I take on is hard. And when you’re faced with challenges like these, it gets even harder.”

The 31-year-old lawyer was arrested by New South Wales Criminal Investigation Department officers in May before being granted bail.

At the time, police alleged that Mr. Saddik represented a 24-year-old man accused of sexual assault and disclosed confidential information about the case to an unrelated third party, including the identity of the alleged victim.
