A flight crew from the Minnesota National Guard’s 2nd Battalion, 147th Aviation Regiment, based in Saint Paul, operates a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, July 29, 2024.

Members of the Black Hawk units regularly complete training missions at Fort McCoy and also support numerous training events on site each year.

According to the Army’s Black Hawk fact sheet, its mission is to provide air assault, general support, air medical evacuation, command and control, and special operations support for combat, stability, and sustainment missions.

The UH-60 is also the army’s versatile tactical transport helicopter.

The versatile helicopter has also increased the army’s overall mobility over the years due to dramatic improvements in troop capacity and cargo-carrying capabilities.

Fort McCoy’s motto is to be the “Total Force Training Center.”

Located in the heart of the Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army base in Wisconsin.

The facility has provided support and facilities for field and classroom training to more than 100,000 military personnel from all branches of the armed forces nearly every year since 1984.
