Carley Fortune publishes new novel “One Golden Summer”

Carley Fortune returns to Barry’s Bay!

On August 14, the bestselling author announced that a new novel, A golden summeris on the way. The upcoming book will hit shelves next year and will focus on Charlie Florek, a popular character from Fortune’s 2022 debut Every summer after that.

The new novel also features Alice, who was always told that the lakeside town of Barry’s Bay in Canada was a special place. When she was 17, she spent the summer at her grandma’s lakeside cottage, where she took an iconic photograph of three teenagers on a yellow speedboat that changed the course of their lives.

When her grandmother breaks her hip, Alice, now a photographer, returns to Barry’s Bay where she reunites with “green-eyed flirt” Charlie, one of the teenagers in her picture who is now an adult. As Charlie and Alice spend time together, Alice longs for her teenage years and develops new feelings for Charlie, who sees her in a way no one has before.

“We’re returning to Barry’s Bay!” Fortune wrote in her Instagram announcement, which was accompanied by a video showing fan messages requesting a novel about Charlie.

Fortune is also the author of 2023’s Meet me at the lake and 2024 This summer will be differentOn July 31, the author announced that Every summer after that is being adapted as a television series for Amazon Prime Video. The novel follows Persephone, known as Percy, and Charlie’s brother Sam, whose long-standing friendship is tested when Percy leaves Barry’s Bay and moves to the city. When Percy returns to her hometown for Sam’s mother’s funeral, the two must come to terms with their past mistakes when they reunite.

A golden summer will be released on May 6, 2025 and can now be pre-ordered wherever the book is sold.
